The University of Utah will welcome 11 vice chancellors from a diverse range of Pakistan’s universities to learn more about the best practices of top-tier U.S. research institutions. The group will tour the U campus and meet with university representatives and Utah government officials the week of July 18 before continuing their tour in Washington, D.C.

The visit is part of USAID’s Higher Education Systems Strengthening Activity (HESSA)–a $19 million project aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s higher education ecosystem. In 2021, the University of Utah was selected as the lead implementation partner of the project, thanks in large part to the U’s experience with educational capacity building in Pakistan.

Partner institutions include the University of Alabama and the Institute of International Education. Over the course of five years, the trio will work with 15 universities in Pakistan to strengthen their leadership practices, approaches to curriculum and research and student life initiatives. The project’s goal is to better prepare graduates to meet modern marketplace needs.
