The blocked YouTube channels and the Facebook account had a cumulative viewership of over 68 crore and were spreading “false, unverified information to create panic, incite communal disharmony and disturb public order in India”, the Information and Broadcasting Ministry statement said.
“None of the digital news publishers had furnished information to the ministry as required under Rule 18 of the IT Rules, 2021,” it said.

Wearing face masks in schools, offices, malls made mandatory in Chandigarh
The Chandigarh administration on Monday made wearing of face masks compulsory in “closed environments” like schools, offices and cinema halls to fight the Covid pandemic. A fine of Rs 500 will be imposed for not wearing masks, according to an order issued by the adviser to the union territory administrator.

Exporters’ body urges FM to start rupee-rouble mechanism with Russia
Amid the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, the Tirupur Exporters’ Association (TEA) on Monday requested the intervention of Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman to immediately commence the rupee-rouble mechanism with Russia to receive export proceeds. This will not only help MSMEs at this hour of crisis but also help to push exports, TEA president Raja M Shanmugham said in a letter to the Union minister.
17 dead in Russian military research facility fire last week
At least 17 people have died in last week’s fire at a Russian military research facility, authorities said Monday. The regional government in Tver, a city about 180 kilometers (112 miles) northwest of Moscow, said that so far only five of the victims had been identified.
Covid: Over six-fold rise in patients under home isolation in Delhi
The number of coronavirus patients in home isolation in the national capital has seen an over six-fold increase from 447 on April 11 to 2,812 on April 24, according to official data. The number of patients admitted in hospitals also increased from 17 to 80 during the period. However, the Delhi government has assured people that despite the rise in cases, the hospitalisation rate has remained low.

China reports 2,666 new local COVID-19 cases, 51 deaths
Mainland China reported 2,666 new locally transmitted COVID-19 cases and 51 more deaths in the past 24 hours, the country’s National Health Commission said on Monday. Of the new local cases, 2,472 infections were reported in Shanghai while the rest of the cases were reported in 17 other provincial-level regions on the mainland including 79 in Jilin, 26 in Heilongjiang, and 14 in Beijing, Xinhua reported citing the commission.
Veteran Congress leader K Sankaranarayanan passes away aged 89
Senior Congress leader K Sankaranarayanan, who served as governor of various states during his decades-long career, passed away at his residence here on Sunday. He was 89. He was under treatment for various ailments for the past one-and-a half year. Sankaranarayanan had served as governor of Maharashtra, Nagaland and Jharkhand. He had also held additional charges of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Goa as Governor.
Nine soldiers among 15 killed in Burkina Faso’s north
Fifteen people were killed, including nine soldiers, in coordinated jihadi attacks in northern Burkina Faso on Sunday, the army said. Two military detachments in Gaskinde and Pobe Mengao in Soum province in the Sahel region were hit by “terrorists” Sunday morning, wounding more than two dozen people, said the army in a statement. Security operations are underway in both areas, it said.
Seven Indian sailors held in Yemen released
Seven Indian sailors were among 14 foreigners released on Sunday from the Houthi-controlled Yemeni capital of Sanaa, Oman’s Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi said. The Indian sailors and at least seven other people from different countries were held captive by Yemen’s Houthi rebels after they seized a UAE-flagged merchant vessel over three months back. Albusaidi confirmed the release of the 14 people including the Indians.
Opposition wins Slovenia vote, defeating right-wing populist
An opposition liberal party convincingly won Sunday’s parliamentary election in Slovenia, according to early official results, in a major defeat for populist Prime Minister Janez Jansa, who was accused of pushing the small European Union country to the right while in office. The Freedom Movement won nearly 34% of the votes, compared with around 24% for the governing conservative Slovenian Democratic Party, state election authorities said after counting over 97% of the ballots.

French President Emmanuel Macron comfortably won reelection to a second term Sunday, triggering relief among allies that the nuclear-armed power won’t abruptly shift course in the midst of the war in Ukraine from European Union and NATO efforts to punish and contain Russia’s military expansionism. The second five-year term for the 44-year-old centrist spared France and Europe from the seismic upheaval of having firebrand populist Marine Le Pen at the helm, Macron’s presidential runoff challenger who quickly conceded defeat but was still on course for her best-ever electoral showing.
